Why You Should Simplify Your Business

I don’t know about you, but I love being organized. There is something so soothing about being able to “set it and forget it”. I get jazzed when I can set something up once and trust that it will work for me again and again. I even find myself constantly looking for things in my business and my clients’ businesses, that are recurring tasks that I can automate.

Whether you are a solopreneur or have a few hundred workers helping your business run, creating a system is one of the most important things you will have to learn as a business owner. I wasn’t always Ms. Organization queen. I had to learn the hard way - on my own, on my business. I worked a demanding 9 to 5 finance job (that was sometimes much longer than 9 to 5) and I decided it would be a great idea to also open a yoga studio. I worked my desk job and owned and operated a business for 6 years.

I searched the back end of my business to create processes that would happen automatically - without my supervision - so I wouldn't have to lift a finger, and I could focus on other things. I automated so many things, that I was able to focus my very precious time on the things that made me money - getting yoga butts in the door and teaching kick-ass classes.

I wound up automating many things in my 9 to 5 job too. So, I didn't have to constantly worry about my yoga studio while I was at work, and I didn't have to worry about whether I was getting my work done at my day job, while I was teaching yoga classes.

Automating your business might seem like a big pain in the ass, especially if you are already knee-deep in doing everything manually.  Who has the time to automate things?

I swear it’s worth it.  And here’s why:

Saves Time

By far the biggest benefit you will gain by taking the time to automate your business is all the time you will save. Something as simple as having a system in place for your social media content creation can save you many hours on a monthly basis. That’s just one example of something you can automate. Imagine if you can automate multiple parts of your business.

If you had an extra few hours each month what would you do? I’m sure you have an immediate answer.  Whether it’s spending time with your family, starting the business project you’ve been putting off, or generating more sales for your business, it will give you time to better create the life you want. Priceless!

Positive Client Experience

When you have a process in place, your clients feel like their business matters to you. Think about it. If they don’t receive vital documents, like contracts, proposals, or invoices, in a timely manner or even when you say they can expect them, it makes you look less put together. Or worse, yet, have you just downright forgotten to send those documents out?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t care how good someone is at their job, if they are not able to deliver what they say they will in a timely manner, I will simply find someone else.

No Need to Start From Scratch, When You’ve Been Here Before

How many times have you started to respond to a client’s question via email and realized you definitely did this before.  No, it’s not Deja Vu, clients will often ask the same questions, have the same concerns, or want the same services.  Why start that from scratch each time?  I’m sure you go scrolling through your email outbox, looking for the last time this happened - good old copy and paste.

I’m willing to bet that there are a bunch of aspects of your business that you do over and over.  By creating a system around this process, you can not only save time (#1) and be consistent and reliable with your clients (#2).  Now you’ll be able to spend more time wowing with your work instead.

Reduced Stress Level and Increased Confidence

I mean, let’s be honest.  When we have more time on our hands, we feel free. If you have processes in place that are reliable and consistent, you don’t have to worry about them.  They happen - it becomes a fact of life.

Not only will you feel freer, but you will gain confidence from the fact that your systems are “on point”!  If you know your clients are impressed, your confidence will go through the roof.

So, by now, you’re thinking, Kate? That’s great and all, but how? How do I automate my business? Easy! Well sort of. You need the right mindset and a little elbow grease.  Creating systems for your business takes time.  Check out my free downloadable workbook “Simplify Your Business”, which will walk you through how to evaluate your business so you can create your own systems.
